About Mrs. Harp

Welcome Scholars to Mrs. Harp's music class. This will be my fourth year teaching here at John Adams Academy in Roseville. I am looking forward to this year's program! For the 2017-2018 school year I will be teaching TK-6th grade classroom music as well as after school beginning and intermediate band.
 
A little bit about me: I earned my teaching credential in music from California State University of Sacramento. I also earned two Bachelors in Music Education and Music Performance from California State University of Sacramento. This past 2017 year was a very busy one for me and my family. I completed my Masters of Music Performance at California State University of Sacramento: School of music. This is a big achievement and something I'm very proud to say I have earned. I also got married on June 18th, which is why (for those who are returning to JAA) my name has changed to Mrs. Harp.  
 
My education before my masters: I received a Scholarship to attend California State University of Sacramento I attended Diablo Valley Junior College in my hometown of Concord California and Los Medanos, Junior College in Pittsburg California. I've enjoyed performing in various groups from the Bay Area to Sacramento. As an educator, my music degree has helped me build my skill in many instruments but my main instrument of expertise is piano and clarinet. I earned my Bachelors in Clarinet Performance and I've played in various groups on both the Piano and Clarinet. I am Classically trained on Piano and Clarinet as well as trained in playing Jazz Piano. I have performed in church and college choir, Jazz Band from middle school to college, Orchestra, and various Wind Ensembles. I look forward to this years' music program and exploring the wonderful world of music with all the Scholars.

6th grade Ukulele

 Hello parents,
We are starting the 6th grade year with a full set of ukuleles. I am so excited to teach the 6th grade scholars this wonderful instrument. Last year I had many questions about where scholars could purchase a ukulele of their own. I decided to make an informational packet for you to help with buying a ukulele, what stores in the area sell them, what books to purchase, and what brands I would recommend. Please feel free to read through this if you and your scholar are interested in purchasing a ukulele of your own.

4th and 5th grade recorder forms

 Hello Parents,
It's that time of year when we start our recorder orders. I hand out the recorder order forms during the third week of the school and ask that they are returned to me on the fourth week of school during your scholars assigned music class day. Your scholar will be receiving an order form from me to take home to you. However, if you do not see this form during this third week of school please feel free to down load the form attached on my page. Thank you and I look forward to another wonderful year of recorders with your scholars.

For those who weren't able to make our meeting last night Aug 14th, here is a copy of the band packet that I handed out to parent. Please read over the packet and return the Family Contact & Commitment Form.

2015-2016 music with Miss.Burton

Hello Scholars and Parents.  The first day of school is quickly approaching and I wanted to say I am so excited for this up coming year.  We have some exciting new things coming up for JAA Music and it's going to be a great year.  I will still be teaching K-5th grade classroom music and band this year.  We have made some changes to band, this year we will have a beginning and an intermediate band.  Beginning Band will be offered to Scholars in grades 4th, 5th, and 6th grade.  Beginning Band will meet Monday and Weds from 3:00-4:00 (5th and 6th graders will come to band as soon as they get out of class at 3:15). Intermediate Band will be offered to Scholars from 7th to above grades.  Intermediate Band will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 3:20-4:00.  We will start Beginning Band and Intermediate Band the week of August 31st- September 4.  The Strings, Choir and Band teachers will be having a music meeting for the parents to explain the music programs being provided at JAA on August 24th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the MPR. Parents/Guardians at this meeting will hear about each program, get to meet the teachers, and receive a Parent's/Guardian's information packet that will give you the information you need to know for this years music programs.  Please refer to my page for upcoming information about all band groups and events.
