Scholars are mentored by passionate experts in the discipline and are exposed to great classical works and the historical contributions of great musicians in society. Making and exploring music in a play-based, joyful, and interactive way, our music program, utilizes dance, movement, body percussion, simple instruments, stories, and choral arrangement to provide instruction on technique, performance, and basic musical theory. Music and the Arts remain a constant focal point for the Academy.
The role of the arts in the general, is to lead us to higher levels of thinking and contemplation. Visual art allows us to contend with beauty in a way that leads us ponder what is true, beautiful and noble. Scholars at the Academy grow and learn in contemplation and discussion of art and its contribution to society. Scholars are guided in the imitation of great works and instructed in the skills and techniques in the same way the masters were exposed. of and coach scholars as they practice those skills and techniques. Mentors guide scholars through an inquiry-based approach, exploring intention of the artist in consideration to the time place and context in which it was created. As in other skill-based studies, mentors come alongside scholars to guide, coach, correct, ask questions, encourage, and model as scholars grow in their understanding.
