Scholars at John Adams Academy are provided with an educational program designed to cultivate healthy bodies, hearts, and minds through proper nutrition and meaningful physical activity. This emphasis on fitness and vitality creates opportunities for self-governance and servant leadership to flourish. Our American Classical Leadership Education® incorporates movement into the school day and extracurricular activities, while offering high-level team sports in middle and high school.
Movement is essential to learning. Thomas Jefferson stated, "If the body be feeble, the mind will not be strong. The sovereign invigorator of the body is exercise.”[1] This is because the mind, body, and soul are a single whole. The health of one affects the capacity of the others. Additionally, there is a depth of understanding that can only be gained through “doing.” Movement allows scholars to acquire skills and knowledge, energize the mind and focus on academic goals. Appropriate movement provides an opportunity to understand social emotional cues and boundaries, while creating shared experiences with peers.
