"Enough has been said to show that music has a power of forming the character and should therefore be introduced into the education of the young."

Visual & Performing Arts

Music and Art are a corner stone of our American Classical Leadership Education®. The arts are deeply woven into our school culture, daily rhythms, and learning experiences at every grade level and across all content areas. At a time when many schools are cutting funding or reducing investment in the arts, John Adams Academy is committed to strengthening this foundational element of our program.

Using our cross-curricular approach, scholars have the opportunity to learn through multiple modalities in a variety of disciplines. It is not uncommon for a scholar to learn about Mathematics in Music or something about Science or History in Art class.

Each child possesses a unique strength or “special excellence” through which they learn best. Through exposure to the arts, scholars thrive as they explore the interconnectedness of ideas within a historical and cultural contexts. Music, recitation, and drama are utilized to teach language and knowledge in a beautiful and memorable way.

In each stage of the trivium, we incorporate songs, chants, folk songs, poetry, mathematical tables, and pieces that convey a connection to our curriculum and our national heritage—all carefully chosen to help students internalize and appreciate the essential body of knowledge that underlies the Western Tradition.

Ultimately, music and the arts enrich the education of the whole child while fostering the intellectual, aesthetic, and social culture of our school community.
