The Board desires to ensure that all scholars attend school and take full advantage of educational opportunities provided by the Academy. The Governing Board believes that excessive absenteeism, whether caused by excused or unexcused absences, may be an early warning sign of poor academic achievement and may put scholars at risk of dropping out of school. There are, however, rare instances that require a scholar be out during offered school days. In those rare circumstances, the Academy provides an independent study option.
Independent Study is intended to provide an opportunity for scholars to remain connected to their studies when there are school days that the scholar must miss, and those dates are known in advance. Independent study agreements may be for 1 or more days. Independent study is not intended to be used frequently or for situations that can be scheduled on non-school days, or after school. Scholars are also required to complete the daily assignments provided in the independent study. Failure to complete the assigned work in an approved independent study will likely result in denial of future independent study requests.
REMINDER - Per the Family/Scholar Handbook, independent study requests will not be granted during the following time frames:
Please fill out the online Request for Independent Study form for your campus at least 7 school days prior to the first day of independent study. (Exceptions, for emergencies only, must be approved by the principal.)
